Iran is talking about the ‘disruption of the Mossad terrorist espionage network’

Iranian authorities announced today that they have dismantled a “terrorist” network linked to Israel’s intelligence agency, the Mossad, which was planning attacks on “sensitive sites” in Iran, Iran’s official Irna news agency reported today.

“Members of a terrorist espionage network linked to the Mossad were arrested,” Irna reported, citing a statement from Iran’s Intelligence Ministry that did not provide details on the number of those arrested or their nationalities. It states, however, that the suspects “entered Iran through Kurdistan”, in northern Iraq.

“They intended to carry out acts of sabotage and unprecedented acts of terrorism in sensitive areas and predetermined targets, using effective operational equipment and the most powerful explosives,” the statement added, without giving more information about the targets in question.

“Their weapons, explosives and equipment were also all confiscated,” according to Irna.

Iran has repeatedly announced the arrest of agents working for the intelligence services of foreign countries, most notably its arch-enemy, Israel.

The Islamic Republic has also accused the Jewish state of sabotaging some of its nuclear facilities and killing Iranian scientists.

In April, state television reported that three people accused of Mossad links and involved in the publication of “classified documents” were arrested in Iran’s southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan province.

And in July 2021, authorities said they arrested “agents” who were part of a “network” working for Israel and seized a cache of weapons intended to be used for “riots” while the country’s southwest is rocked by protests about the water breaks.
