Iran launches ballistic missile near US Consulate in Erbil, Iraq

Amid further escalation in Middle East geopolitical tensions, the Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired missiles at targets in northern Iraqaccording to a statement published by Iranian state media.

“Ballistic missiles were used to destroy spy centers and meetings of anti-Iran terrorist groups in the region late in the night,” media reported.

He ballistic missile was launched near the US Consulate in Erbil, IraqIran's IRGC said.

The IRGC noted that the targets were the positions of “spies and dissident groups,” however, Sky News reported that the US Consulate in Erbil had been attacked by “long-range missiles with great destructive capacity.”

Iranians retaliated against terrorist attacks this month that killed nearly 100 people near the burial site of General Qassem Soleimani.

The attacks have come amid growing fears of the continuation of Israel's conflict offensive in the Gaza Strip and escalation in the Red Sea by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
