The Iran stated today, Wednesday (3/11) that it prevented an attempt by the Navy of USA to seize a tanker carrying Iranian oil in the Oman Sea, state television reported.
Iranian television did not specify the date of the incident or the nationality of the tanker. The United States and Iran are in conflict, mainly over sanctions imposed by Washington, according to the APE-MPE.
According to the television network, the conflict had several stages. “The United States stopped a tanker that was exporting Iranian oil and transferred its cargo to another tanker which was headed to an unknown destination.”
In a second stage, the Revolutionary Guards navy, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, with the support of their air force, “captured the ship”, according to the same source. “US forces again tried to block the passage of the tanker using several helicopters and a warship, but failed again.”
“The tanker is now in Iranian territorial waters,” state television said, without specifying whether the boat the Iranians recovered was the one on which the Americans had transported the oil.
The US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, told Reuters it had seen the information but had not given any information at this time.
Iran has repeatedly warned the United States of its military activities in the Gulf, saying the Guards’ naval forces have stepped up patrols to ensure the passage of Iranian ships and to fight fuel smuggling.
