Iranian justice has announced that it hanged today a man who was found guilty of rape and murder of a little girl in northwestern Iran. The execution took place in public and publicly “at the request of the family and citizens, due to the emotional impact of the case in society,” said Nasser Atabati, a prosecutor of the western Azerbaijan province, bordering Turkey. No details have been made known about the girl’s age and the profile of the perpetrator, nor when the crime was committed. The judicial proceedings had begun in January and the defendant was sentenced to death in March. The Iranian Supreme Court confirmed the ruling, which was adopted after appeal, was clarified by the judiciary.
