Iran: New negotiations leave plans to move forward, says US authority

High -risk nuclear negotiations between US and Iranian authorities in Oman were completed today, a Trump government official said, classifying the latest discussions as encouraging.

Led by President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, the fourth round of negotiations lasted more than three hours and occurred directly and through Omanese moderators, the official said.

In a positive signal before Trump’s first major trip to the Middle East in his second term, both sides plan to “move forward” soon on more technical topics, according to the employee, although a date has not yet been set.

“We are encouraged by today’s outcome and eager for our next meeting, which will take place soon,” said the official.

In turn, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, described negotiations as “difficult but useful for better understanding each other’s positions and finding reasonable and realistic ways to deal with differences.”

It is still unclear what kind of agreement the two parts could reach, if and how much the US will allow Iran to enrich, and as a possible agreement could be different from the agreement signed by the Obama government.

Trump told reporters on Wednesday that a decision on if Iran may have a nuclear enrichment program has not yet been taken.
