Iran: Parliament announces terms for return to nuclear deal

A majority of Iranian lawmakers today issued a statement on the conditions that must be met for Tehran to return to the agreement with the major powers on its nuclear program in 2015, the official IRNA news agency reported today.

The 250 lawmakers say the US and Europe sides must guarantee that they will not back down from a deal that might be revived and that they will not activate the mechanism to reinstate all UN sanctions against Tehran.

They also demand the lifting of all US sanctions through a verification process.

Former US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw Washington from the agreement unilaterally in 2018 and impose previous sanctions as well as new ones led Iran to begin in May 2019 to abandon compliance with many of the restrictions on its nuclear program. country provided for under the Treaty.
