Iran: Revolutionary Guards Colonel assassinated in Tehran

A colonel of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards was assassinated today in eastern Tehran, according to official sources.

“Sanctuary defender Sayad Hodai was killed during an armed attack by two motorcyclists on Mojahedin e Eslam Street,” the official Irna news agency reported.

The term “defender of the sanctuary” refers to those who work for the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria and Iraq.

The Revolutionary Guards clarified that Hodai had the rank of colonel. The statement posted on their website referred to a “terrorist act” committed by “elements associated with global arrogance” (including the United States and its allies).

Photos published by the Irna agency show a bloodied man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car with broken windows.

Sayad Hodai was returning home when gunmen shot him five times.

According to the Tasnim agency, he was “close to his house” when he was attacked and “his wife was the first person to find the body”.
