Iran says ‘absolutely determined’ to reach agreement in Vienna talks

Iran is “absolutely determined” to reach an agreement with the international community on its nuclear program in talks that resume today in Vienna, said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh.

“The delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran is in Vienna with the utmost determination to reach an agreement and expects fruitful talks,” Khatibzadeh said.

“The government has shown its intentions and seriousness by sending a team whose quality is known to all. Although the other side has similar intentions, we will certainly be well on our way to reaching an agreement,” he added.

According to Iranian media, the Iranian mission under Undersecretary of State Ali Bagheri has been greatly strengthened for this new round of talks.

“If the US comes to Vienna determined to get out of the impasse and overcome the issues on which we did not agree in the previous rounds (of negotiations), the path to dialogue will certainly be easier,” Khatibzadeh said.

Negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program between Iran and the countries remaining in the 2015 agreement (Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China) were suspended in June and resume today after five months. The United States, which unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018, is indirectly involved in the talks.
