Hamas has told Iran it is ready to release civilians held hostage in the war against Israel, the official said. Minister of Foreign Affairs of WillHossein Amirabdollahian, at the UN general assembly this Thursday (26).
He added that the world should also press for the release of the more than 6,000 Palestinians imprisoned in Israel.
According to the Israeli Army, the number of people confirmed as hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip since the October 7 terrorist attacks has risen to 224.
“The Islamic Republic of Will is ready to play its role in this very important humanitarian effort, together with Qatar and Turkey. Of course, the release of the 6,000 Palestinian prisoners is also another need and responsibility of the global community,” said Amirabdollahian.
Iran says US ‘will not be spared’ if Israel’s Gaza war continues
O Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran also warned that if Israel’s retaliation in the Gaza Strip is not ended, the United States “will not be spared this fire.”
“I frankly say to members of the American government, who are managing the genocide in Palestine, that we do not want the expansion of the war in the region. But if the genocide in Gaza continues, they will not be spared this fire,” he told the UN.
Israel has vowed to wipe out the radical Islamic group Hamas, which rules Gaza, in retaliation for the October 7 surprise attack that killed 1,400 Israelis and took hundreds hostage.
Since then, Israel has launched daily air strikes against the Gaza Strip and continues to impose a territorial siege that has cut off the supply of water, food, medicine and fuel to citizens in the region, in addition to preparing a land military invasion. Palestinian authorities say more than 7,000 Palestinians have been killed.
