The International Atomic Energy Agency did not have access to the Tesa centrifuge component manufacturing plant, located in Karaj, near Tehran, contrary to the IAEA’s September 12 agreement with the Iran, the UN body announced on Sunday.
Iran has failed to fully comply with the terms of an agreement reached with the IAEA two weeks ago that allows inspectors to maintain surveillance equipment in the country, the IAEA said.
“The Director-General reiterates that all of the Agency’s activities referred to in the Joint Statement, for all equipment, all facilities and all Iranian locations, are necessary in order to maintain continuity,” the statement said.
Iran has allowed IAEA inspectors to replace memory cards on most equipment, as agreed on September 12, the IAEA said. However, he did not allow this to happen in a laboratory that manufactures centrifuge components at the TESA facility.
In his latest report on Iran, IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi told Member States that the Islamic Republic had nevertheless allowed all other accesses from 20 to 22 September.
The report comes at a time when negotiations have stalled to revive a historic 2015 deal to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for easing sanctions.
