Iran: The country introduced a new missile with a range of 1,450 kilometers

Iran today unveiled a new missile with a range of 1,450 kilometers, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported, a day after the resumption of talks in Vienna on the rescue of the nuclear deal reached in 2015 between Tehran and the major powers.

The missile was unveiled during a visit by top Iranian military leaders to a missile base of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), Tasnim reported.

“The strategic weapon is a third-generation long-range missile developed by the IRGC that uses solid fuels and is capable of penetrating missile shields with great flexibility,” Tasnim reported.

“The modified Heibarsekan design has reduced its weight by a third compared to similar missiles,” he added, adding that the preparation time required for launching it has been reduced to one-sixth that required.

Delegates to the Vienna talks say they have made only limited progress since the talks resumed in November. Western powers say little time remains before Iran’s progress in the nuclear field renders useless the 2015 agreement that limits such progress.

Iran’s top security official, Ali Samhani, today criticized the United States’ approach.

“Voices from the US government show that there is no cohesion in this country to take political decisions to advance the Vienna talks,” he wrote on Twitter.
