Iran: US Secretary of State calls for “goodwill” moves from US to revive nuclear deal

US President Joe Biden will have to lift some sanctions against Iran in order to show “goodwill” for the revival of the international nuclear deal with Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdolahian told Reuters on Sunday.

“If Biden intends to lift sanctions and return to the nuclear deal, he will have to issue an executive order to show goodwill instead of imposing sanctions on individuals and entities in Iran,” he said.

“In many cases, we have told the Americans that they should go one or two practical points before any deal, for example by releasing some of Iran’s assets held in foreign banks,” he added.

Iranian lawmakers have set conditions for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, including legal guarantees that Washington will not abandon it, Iranian state media reported on Sunday.

In a letter to President Ebrahim Raisi, lawmakers said a revived deal should guarantee that Washington would not activate the “Snapback” mechanism under which sanctions against Iran would be reinstated immediately. Tasnim news agency.
