Iran wants guarantee US stay in nuclear deal if it resumes

Iran said on Monday (8) that the United States should offer guarantees that it will not abandon the nuclear agreement, signed between Tehran and world powers in 2015, if negotiations to reactivate it are successful.

Indirect talks between Iran and the US, which came to a halt in June after the election of Iran’s hard-line President Ebrahim Raisi, are expected to resume Nov. 29 in Vienna, Austria, to find ways to revive the deal. .

Former US President Donald Trump withdrew his country from the pact three years ago and resumed sanctions against Iran.

Echoing the official position, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the US must lift all sanctions against his country through a verifiable process and “acknowledge its mistake in scrapping the pact.”

Khatibzadeh said Ali Bagheri-Kani, Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, will travel this week as deputy foreign minister for political affairs to the capitals of three European countries that are signatories to the nuclear deal.
