Iran is preparing to deliver short -range ballistic missile launchers in the near future that, according to the United States, were sent by Tehran to Russia last year to be used against Ukraine, two Western security officials and a regional authority said.
Delivery of Fath-360 launchers, if it occurs, can help Russia’s attack to his neighbor and reaffirm the deepening of security ties between Moscow and Tehran.
With a range of 120 km, the Fath-360 would give Moscow forces a new weapon to shoot Ukrainian troops on the front line, nearby military targets and population centers near the Russian border, analysts.
Last September, the US said Iran delivered the missiles to Russia on nine Russian flag ships – which were sanctioned – and three sources told Reuters at the time the launchers were not included.
Western and regional security officials stated on anonymous condition that the delivery of Fath-360 launchers is imminent, refusing to provide details about the pending transfer, including why they thought the launchers had not been delivered with the missiles.
The Russian Ministry of Defense and Iran’s mission in the United Nations did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
The US National Security Council referred questions to the State Department, which did not answer immediately. The CIA chose not to comment.
Russia and Iran have previously denied that Tehran sent the missiles or any other weapons to help in the Ukraine large -scale invasion that Moscow launched in February 2022. US, Ukrainian, and European authorities maintain that Iran provided thousands of artillery drones and projectiles.
In an apparent reference to the Fath-360, US Army General Christopher Cavoli, a US Central Commander, told US parliamentarians last month that Iran had donated to Russia more than 400 short range ballistic missiles.
There are no public reports that Iran has transferred other types of short-range ballistic missiles to Moscow or that Russian forces used the Fath-360.
