Iranian authorities take up arms against Hamster Kombat

The mania for the clicker game Hamster Kombat, which runs inside the Telegram messenger as a mini-application, has swept the whole world. Even Iran is among the countries where the “tapalka” is gaining momentum. But they are very unhappy with this.

Tehran authorities criticized Hamster Kombat, calling the new blockchain game a tool of “soft power” of Western countries. The publication writes about this Associated Press.

What Iranian authorities say about the hamster

This week, the developers of the “battle of hamsters” shared another achievement. The game’s user base has broken the 200 million mark. Back on June 14, the figure was 150 million players.

The growing popularity of Hamster Kombat does not suit and rather frightens the Iranian government. Especially in anticipation of the presidential elections scheduled for June 28.

Thus, Deputy Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces Habibollah Sayyari said that the main goal of the game is to distract the country’s population from the upcoming vote. And, according to him, Western countries are behind this.

Religious authority Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi also agrees with Sayyari. He considers all cryptocurrencies to be scams. However, Iran has been officially mining Bitcoin (BTC) for many years. In this way, Tehran is trying to circumvent Western sanctions.

How the “battle of the hamsters” rocks the boat

According to the Associated Press, the officials’ comments do not take into account the dire financial situation facing many Iranians. Inflation is growing rapidly in the country. For example, prices for vegetables and fruits jumped by 50% in less than a year, and prices for meat increased by 70%.

“There were three visitors to my store this morning, but none of them bought anything. Most people prefer to buy from traders or second-hand items in other places,” said one of the publication’s interlocutors.

Unfavorable economic conditions often become a catalyst for the development of blockchain games in developing countries. The population clings to every opportunity in the hope of getting rich. Or at least earn money for the most necessary things, when there are practically no other ways to do this.

At the beginning of June, the developers of Hamster Kombat noted that they would launch a token under the ticker HMSTR in The Open Network (TON) ecosystem in July. Usually the release of a coin is accompanied by an airdrop. During asset distribution, the project rewards users for their contribution to development.

The predecessor of the “battle of the hamsters” is the clicker game Notcoin, launched in January of this year. In May, the NOT token was launched, whose capitalization currently stands at more than $1.4 billion.
