The Iranian authorities have decided to cut off registered miners from electricity due to the energy shortage in the country.
Currently, 118 mining companies are legally operating in Iran. However, from the first day of the month of Tire (June 22), they will lose access to electricity. In total, more than 1,000 mining licenses have been issued in Iran, and there are also many underground mining farms due to the extremely low cost of electricity.
How informs Tehran Times, citing Iranian Energy Minister Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, last week’s energy consumption in the country reached 62,500 MW. In the near future, the figure will reach 63,000 MW, and there is not enough generation in Iran. The authorities decided to stop supplying electricity to miners to avoid rolling blackouts.
The Iranian authorities tried to fight underground mining. In April, it was decided to significantly increase the punishment for unlicensed mining. However, this did not greatly affect the popularity of this type of activity.
