Iranian director Darius Merzoui murdered by his former gardener over financial dispute

Iranian director Darius Merzoui was murdered on October 15 together with his wife from his former gardener due to a financial dispute, the Iranian judiciary announced. “The main suspect had worked as a gardener at Mr. Merzoui’s villa and was angry with him for financial reasons,” explained a judicial official in Alborz province, near Tehran, clarifying that the director owed 300 million riyals (about 600 euros) to his former employee.

Darius Merzoui, pioneer of Iranian cinema, murdered with a knife aged 83 on October 15 with his wife Vahideh Monamadifar, a 54-year-old screenwriter, at their residence in Karaj, near the Iranian capital. In total, four people are involved in the murders. According to the police, the four broke into the director’s residence and they stabbed him in the neck while he was watching TV. His wife was murdered in her room, according to Iranian justice.
