Iranian foreign minister visits Damascus and meets Assad after jihadist invasion of northern Syria

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Damascus and met with Bashar al-Assad after the jihadists’ surprise attack in northern Syria. Araghchi “met Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus and they discussed bilateral relations and regional developments,” Iran’s Irna news agency said, without giving further details. In the announcement of the Syrian presidency on the meeting between the two men, it is stated that Assad, while welcoming the Iranian foreign minister, emphasized the importance of “support from allies” for “countering terrorist attacks”.
