The official Instagram account of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and state television asked Iranians this Sunday (19) to pray for the leader and his entourage after the helicopter they were traveling in crashed in the country's East Azerbaijan province.
“We ask the population to pray for the well-being of the president and his companions,” said a post shared on Raisi’s Instagram.
Searches in progress
The location where a helicopter carrying the Iranian president crashed is very foggy, making it difficult for rescuers to search, according to Iranian Health Minister Bahram Eynollahi.
“We created treatment facilities. We are now in the area and all rescue forces are busy searching,” Eynollahi said on state TV Sunday. “We have all the medical facilities in the region, including emergency medicine, surgery and ambulance.”
The Iranian military has been in the area of the accident since it was first reported, said Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri.
“All facilities, equipment and capabilities of the army, the (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) and the police command are being used to provide assistance and search for the helicopter of the president and his companions,” Bagheri said.
The armed forces are also investigating the origin of the accident, he said.
