Iranian man beheaded his wife and paraded her head in the street – Sentenced to just 8 years in prison

Iranian sentenced to just over eight years in prison because in 2022 he decapitated his wife and then paraded her head in the streeta case that had shocked the country, the judicial authority announced today.

THE Mona Heydari, 17, was murdered in February 2022 by her husband, who accused her of adulteryand her brother-in-law in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran.

Video that showed her husband walking down the street smiling, holding her head caused shock and outrage in Iran.

Today Masoud Setayesi, a spokesman for the judiciary, told reporters that Mona’s parents “forgave” her killer Sazad Heydarnava”

“The man was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for the intentional homicide of a Muslim woman and to eight months for abuse,” he added. “The defendant has no right to challenge the sentence and the decision is final,” he stressed. “The second defendant, Heydar Heydarnava, was sentenced to 45 months in prison for complicity in manslaughter,” Setagyesi noted.

At the time of the incident, the local media had broadcast thatMona was only 12 when she got married and the mother of a 3-year-old boy when she was killed. The 17-year-old had fled to Turkey to escape from her husband’s abuse, but her close relatives forced her to return to Iran.

After the tragic incident, many human rights advocates called on the Iranian authorities to amend the law to protect women from domestic violence and to raise the minimum age of marriage for girls, which is now 13.
