High -ranking negotiators from Iran and the United States resumed, on Sunday (11), negotiations on the Tehran nuclear program, reported the Iranian state media in an effort to advance while Washington hardens his position before the US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East.
Although Tehran and Washington claimed to prefer diplomacy to resolve the decades dispute, they remain deeply divided over several red lines that negotiating will have to get around to reach a new nuclear agreement and prevent future military actions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi, and Trump’s envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff will hold the fourth round of mascat negotiations through Omanian mediators, although Washington has taken a hard position in public that, according to Iranian authorities, would not help in negotiations.
Araqchi, before leaving for Mascate, told the Iranian state TV that he expects “constructive” negotiations, “preserving at the same time the positions of the principle of the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
Witkoff told Breitbart News on Thursday (8) that the red line of Washington is: “without enrichment. This means dismantling, without armament,” requiring complete dismantling of Iranz nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan.
Reacting to Witkoff’s comments, Araqchi said on Saturday that Iran would not compromise their nuclear rights, which include uranium enrichment.
“Iran has a well -known position, based on clear principles, and we advance in a completely direct path. Our position is totally transparent. The Iranian nuclear program is based on strong legal and legitimate foundations, and all its peaceful aspects have always been, and will continue to be, under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA). This is part of the rights of the Iranian people and is not subject to negotiation Or commitment, ”he told state television on Sunday.
Tehran is willing to negotiate some restrictions on their nuclear activity in exchange for the survey of sanctions, according to Iranian authorities, but ending their enrichment program or delivering their enriched uranium stock are among the “red lines of Iran that cannot be compromised” in negotiations.
In the streets of Tehran, the Iranians said they were hopeful with a peaceful result for negotiations, but cautious with Trump’s aggressive negotiation tactics.
