Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, said on Saturday (17) that US President Donald Trump talks about peace and threatens at the same time during nuclear negotiations.
“What should we believe?” Asked Pezeshkian at a naval event in Tehran. “On the one hand, he talks about peace and, on the other, threatens the most advanced mass extermination tools.”
Tehran also made it clear that he is not afraid of US threats. “We are not looking for war,” added the Iranian president.
Proposals and rounds of negotiations
Trump said on Friday (15) that Iran had a US proposal to analyze about the nuclear program, and knows it needs to act quickly to resolve a decades dispute.
“More importantly, they know they need to act quickly, or something bad will happen,” Trump told reporters aboard the Air Force One after taking off from the United Arab Emirates on Friday (15), according to an audio recording of statements.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, in an X publication, said Tehran had not received a US proposal. “There is no scenario in which Iran abandon its rightly won right to enrich (uranium) for peaceful purposes…” said Araqchi.
Pezeshkian stated that Iran will not “retreat our legitimate rights.”
“Because we refuse to give in to intimidation, they say we are a source of instability in the region,” said the president.
The fourth round of negotiations between Iran and the US ended in Oman last Sunday (11). A new round has not yet been scheduled.
