Iraq: Murder drone attack on PM’s residence

A drone bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Baghdad, killing at least 12 people and wounding dozens more.

A statement from the Iraqi military said the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a rally in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. No further details were given.

Through twitter, Kadimi stated that he is “well” and called for “calm and self-control”. “I am well, fortunately, and I call for calm and restraint on everyone’s part for the sake of Iraq,” he wrote.

Two government officials said the prime minister’s residence had been hit by at least one blast and confirmed to Reuters that the prime minister was in good health.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Western diplomats inside the Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies, said they heard explosions and gunfire in the area.

The attack comes as hundreds of supporters of pro-Iranian organizations sit in protest at the entrance to the Green Zone against the outcome of the October 10 parliamentary elections.
