Iraq’s prime minister survives drone attack on his home in Baghdad

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi was the target of an attack in Baghdad’s Green Zone, according to an Iraqi military statement released on Sunday (6).

“A failed assassination attempt against the prime minister, commander of the Armed Forces, with an explosive-armed drone that tried to attack his home in the Green Zone of Baghdad. The prime minister was not injured and is in good health. The security forces are taking the necessary steps in relation to this failed attempt,” the Iraqi army said.

Al Kadhimi called for “calm and moderation from everyone” moments after his Baghdad home was attacked.

“I was and continue to be a project of redemption for Iraq and for the Iraqi people. The missiles of treachery will not discourage believers and will shake the stability and determination of our heroic security forces to preserve the security of the people, bring justice and establish the law in force,” he tweeted in his official account.

“Thank God I’m fine and I ask everyone to calm down and be in moderation, for the sake of Iraq.”
