Irene Grandi reveals: «My marriage? Already finished. I’m selfish, music comes first “

Irene Grandi is single again after four years of marriage. The singer, who had said “yes” to the lawyer Lorenzo Doni in July 2018revealed the end of the marriage in an interview with the Florentine courier: «I got married in an attempt to understand if I felt grown up, perhaps to ‘calm’ certain sides of me that I had always passionately channeled into music. But in marriage I understood that a healthy selfishness persists in me from which I cannot detach myself, the priority is always work, and therefore it did not work. It’s already over”. Despite the breakup, 52-year-old Irene is convinced that “having a family and making music” is possible: «I don’t think the problem is music, but the concept of a couple today. That it is in crisis, it seems clear to me. It is the world that no longer seems to me to be structured in such a way as to allow couples to last over time. Or are you lucky enough to find a soul mate … but it’s just “incredible”. Or, mmmhhh. And that’s right, I think, why in the past there were too many unhappy marriages that went on just because “they had to”. Perhaps too often love is confused with cinema, passion, convenience, the bonds that have been created and you think it is a sin to throw away. It is difficult today to understand what love is. I don’t know but I keep singing it because it’s the only way I can really get close to it“.

For the singer, who has always been very reserved on matters of the heart, it was the second marriage. The first, with Alessandro Carotti, he had celebrated in 2003 in Las Vegas. Now she’s single again. And in her future there is a new commitment to the greatest love: music. The tour will start in July Me in the blues with which he will present his new album, the result of a difficult period. “Covid has transformed me, has accelerated things that perhaps were already in transformation, amplifying them, both the positive and the negative ». Among the negatives he lists the “breaking of fragile ties, in private life as in work”. Among the positives «the opportunity to work with Stewart Copeland on his rock opera. Certainly not something that happens every day ». Not only that: “The pandemic allowed me to finally finish my phantom yoga studies: now I have a teacher diploma”.
