The administration of Irkutskenergosbyt commented that from November 1, 2024, regulations on mining came into force in Russia, which obligated legal entities and individual entrepreneurs mining cryptocurrency to register in a special register of the Federal Tax Service. However, some crypto-entrepreneurs ignored the requirements of the law, and in December, illegal miners began to be disconnected from the network in the Irkutsk region.
“As of January 1, 2025, there are 1,348 court decisions made in favor of energy workers, which have already entered into force. More than 400 more lawsuits are pending. At the same time, 104 claims were paid before the court decision was made. We intend to continue to work in this direction,” said Andrei Kharitonov, director of Irkutskenergosbyt.
According to court decisions that have entered into force, “gray” miners must return more than 650 million rubles to Irkutskenergosbyt.
Previously, the Russian government approved a list of regions and territories where mining of cryptocurrencies and participation in mining pools is prohibited from January 1, 2025. In particular, in the territories of the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and Trans-Baikal Territory, mining of digital assets is prohibited during the autumn-winter heating period.
