Iron Beam: When Israel’s Laser Interceptor System Will Be Operational – What’s Its Downside

Israel is preparing to integrate its new high-powered laser interception system, known as Iron Beam, into its defense armor with a planned operational date of 2025, the Defense Ministry announced on Monday. “The ground-based laser system is expected to be put into operational use one year from today,” said the ministry’s director-general, Eyal Zamir, at the signing of a NIS 2 billion ($535 million) contract with manufacturing companies Rafael and Elbit. The contract will significantly speed up production so that the laser systems are available on time and in high quantity, according to a ministry statement.
