Israel is preparing to integrate its new high-powered laser interception system, known as Iron Beam, into its defense armor with a planned operational date of 2025, the Defense Ministry announced on Monday. “The ground-based laser system is expected to be put into operational use one year from today,” said the ministry’s director-general, Eyal Zamir, at the signing of a NIS 2 billion ($535 million) contract with manufacturing companies Rafael and Elbit.
