Elbrus-8C is a Russian-made processor based on its own Elbrus architecture and containing eight cores with a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The solution does not claim to compete with modern Intel and AMD CPUs and is not aimed at the consumer segment. However, is it possible to use Elbrus-8C at all, for example, for games?
The authors of the video, which you can see below, armed themselves with a Bitblaze Oberon 100L workstation based on Elbrus-8C with 32 GB of RAM and added a Radeon RX 580 video card there, which is still quite productive for modern games. The system was running OS Elbrus 6 (Linux 5.4).
Unfortunately, as we can see, the video card does not help in this case. Even in the old STALKER game, the system often demonstrates unplayable performance below 20 fps, and in cases where the indicator is higher, there are still problems with the smoothness of the picture. Sometimes performance drops below 10 fps. In STALKER: Clear skies, the situation is expected to be even worse. In much simpler games, as we can see, the performance is sufficient.
Of course, such testing does not have any practical meaning and simply demonstrates the state of affairs in a situation for which Elbrus-8C is not intended at all.
