Is it true that the batteries of old Samsung smartphones fail? Experiment

At the end of September, the well-known YouTube blogger Mrwhosetheboss discovered that his Galaxy Note8 had a swollen battery – this became noticeable due to the fact that the cover simply peeled off. After that, he reviewed his collection of Samsung smartphones and noticed a similar situation with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S10. The video from Mrwhosetheboss went viral as users all over the internet started reporting similar experiences with Samsung gadgets from their experiences. Against this background, specialized publications SamMobile and GalaxyClub tested about 110 old Galaxy devices in total.

Among all the gadgets, only one of the few tested Galaxy S4 had a thicker battery, but not like a bloated one. As SamMobile notes, this experiment did not dot the i: journalists believe that they could just be lucky, and the storage conditions for gadgets could differ from those cases when the batteries swelled (smartphones were stored in a ventilated room at a temperature of about 20 ° Celsius ).

“I used to work at a Sprint store [местный сотовый оператор]and we did in-home device repairs. A swollen battery has been an extremely common occurrence on Samsung devices – especially on the Galaxy S7. Being a Florida repairman, it was easy to assume that this was due to the user keeping the device in a hot place for too long, so I’m amazed to see how widespread this problem is.” .

“I thought my own swollen batteries were caused by me taking them apart and handling them ‘wrong’… but it turned out to be a much more serious problem. I hope we get answers! ”, – said the popular blogger JerryRigEverything, specializing in testing the durability of devices.

In any case, verification from SamMobile and GalaxyClub proves that the problem is at least not too widespread.
