Is the title of consumer processor king going to Intel CPUs again? The next tests of the Core i9-12900K show its capabilities

In less than two weeks, Intel will finally unveil Alder Lake processors led by the Core i9-12900K. Multiple leaks suggest it could become the most powerful CPU in the mainstream consumer segment, displacing the Ryzen 9 5950X. And today we can be convinced of this once again thanks to new tests.

For example, a review of the new Radeon RX 6600 video card appeared on the Web, where the unannounced Core i9-12900K was used. Apparently, it was installed in the ASRock Z690 Steel Legend motherboard and worked together with DDR4-3866 memory.

As a result, the CPU showed very high performance relative to any existing processor. Of course, 3DMark is not the best way to benchmark CPUs, but this result only confirms the previous ones. Separately, it is worth noting that the difference between the Core i9-12900K and the best Core i9-10900K in this test (so far the best available) is almost 28%. At the same time, in this particular collection, the difference between the best (Core i9-10900K) and the worst (Ryzen 7 5800X) available is limited to only 15%. That is, the increase in the Core i9-12900K by the standards of the test is huge.

There is also a test in the game. This is Forza Horizon 4 in Full HD. Intel’s new product showed 193 fps, and the Ryzen 9 5950X – 189 fps. Firstly, this is a negligible difference, and secondly, in the first case, Windows 11 was used, and in the second, Windows 10, so it is a little incorrect to compare the results directly. There are also results in Rainbow Six Siege (252 fps) and Shadow of The Tomb Raider (112 fps), but there is nothing to compare with.

So far, it looks like the Core i9-12900K will be able to take away the title of consumer processor king from the Ryzen 9 5950X, at least for a while. We already know that AMD’s new products will be released only at the beginning of next year.
