Island of the Famous 2024: the Benigno case live is embarrassing (but deserved more attention)

For a few years now it seems that theIsland of the Famous has become very good at turning a deaf ear every time a hand grenade explodes in her hands that could give her new life. And so, after having beautifully snubbed the famous canna-gate of a few editions ago, declassifying it as a fourth-rate argument compared to much more sterile and boring dynamics, the turn has come for an exclusion that smells of mystery: that of the actor Francesco Benigno which, after the suspension announcement by theIsland of the Famous, began to lash out against the production via Instagram, explaining that he had been the victim of an injustice that no one really understood because those directly involved surprisingly chose not to talk about it. «I didn't retire. I was picked up yesterday byIsland after a verbal argument with one of the contestants because he was upset that I had nominated him. I was picked up with an excuse, I was taken to the resort and they told me that I had to leave the game because there was something, they said, that I had done. But obviously I didn't. The strong powers of Mediaset and Banijay decided that I had to be eliminated, but they can't give us an explanation”, said Benigno before Banijay Italia, the production company ofIsland of the Famousspoke through a press release issued before the new episode.

«Banijay Italia reiterates that the exclusion of Francesco Benigno from The Island of the Famous occurred as a result of inappropriate behavior prohibited by the program regulations, rules accepted and signed by himself. The statements released by Benigno through his social channels are to be considered offensive and harmful, as well as without any foundation». It goes without saying that, during the episode of 19 April, we were all hoping that the program would finally clarify what really happened, what the dispute was about and what Benigno's inappropriate attitudes would have been, but that wasn't the case. . In almost four hours of programme, only a couple of minutes were dedicated to the story shortly after eleven in the evening, when the presenter Vladimir Luxuria read a new statement to the public. «Francesco Benigno, as you know, is no longer a competitor of theIsland of the Famous. The reason for this elimination is linked to some of Benigno's behaviors, behaviors deemed by the production of the program to be harmful to the regulation, a regulation that every castaway signs before leaving. One episode in particular made his removal necessary. An unacceptable behavior that made his stay on the Playa impossible. We decided not to show the image of the episode in question so as not to give visibility to episodes of intolerable conduct”, said Luxuria before adding something about herself to the official note.

«I saw this scene. On theIsland we argue, we can discuss, but we cannot transcend. I think that the fact that we do not show these scenes – which are not at all exemplary because I have seen them – is a sign of respect for you at home, but perhaps Francesco Benigno should also thank us for not showing these images”, concluded the presenter . The problem, however, is another: reality TV is called this because it is called upon to show reality without filters. It applies to pure emotions but also to the most unhappy pages: even if we admitted the gravity of the images, e.gIs it possible that no one thought it was right to inform the public about what happened at least by describing what happened? FromIsland of the Famous don't they understand that hiding behind a finger fuels the distrust of spectators who, at this point, might even think that Benigno is right? Wouldn't it have been better to remove the stone, clarify things and only then close the matter? Apparently not. Leaving aside the palpable embarrassment of the studio, we really hoped that the reality show would learn from its mistakes and show a little more transparency, but unfortunately this was not the case, with the result that Benigno can now do the bad and the bad weather because the production he did not have the desire and courage to inform his audience about what actually happened.
