Israel: All restrictions lifted from June

The Israel will lift all restrictions on Covid-19 as the successful vaccination campaign has virtually zeroed in on new infections, the health ministry said today.

As the majority of the population has already been vaccinated with Pfizer / BioNTech and about 92% of people over the age of 50 have been vaccinated (or recovered), Israel is gradually restarting its economy, after three lockouts.

Yesterday only 12 new cases were announced within 24 hours. In January, at the height of the pandemic, more than 10,000 cases were reported daily.

Restrictions on activities that are considered high risk as well as the number of people that can be concentrated in certain areas remain until now. The government issues the so-called “Green Passport” with which Covid-19 vaccinated and recovering people have greater freedom. But Health Minister Julie Edelstein said today that the measures would not be extended, meaning the restrictions and the “Green Passport” would be lifted in early June.

“The economy and the people of Israel will have more room to breathe,” he said. He warned, however, that the measures would be reversed if the situation was reversed.

The border will remain closed to most travelers, although Israel has begun allowing small groups of vaccinated tourists to enter. The Ministry of Health will also reconsider whether it is necessary to use a protective mask indoors.
