Israel and Hamas exchange accusations over violation of ceasefire agreement

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli Army, stated this Saturday (25) that “Hamas failed to fulfill its obligations” under the ceasefire agreement by not releasing a civilian who was supposed to be released today — Arbel Yehud, 29 years old.

The radical Palestinian group released four female soldiers: Karina Ariev, Daniela Gilboa, Naama Levy and Liri Albag, highlighting that a “technical failure” resulted in the delay in Yehud’s release.

They were at an observation post near the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, when they were kidnapped by Hamas fighters who invaded the base where they were staying.

Hagari stated that Israel is determined that Arbel Yehud, an Israeli citizen kidnapped from Nir Oz, Shiri Bibas and her two children, Kfir and Ariel, return to the country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pointed out that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip will not be allowed to return to the northern part of the territory until the problem is resolved.

Hamas, in turn, accused Israel of delaying the implementation of the terms of the ceasefire by preventing displaced Palestinians from returning to the northern Gaza Strip.

The armed group warned that these delays could have “repercussions” for the next stages of the agreement.

Exchange of hostages and prisoners

In exchange for the four Hamas hostages, around 200 Palestinian prisoners were released by Israel.

This is the second release since the ceasefire began on January 19, when Hamas handed over three Israeli civilians in exchange for 90 Palestinian prisoners.
