A Hamas representative is counted among the 63 members of the organization who were captured by Israel in night raids on West Bank, the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territory. On Thursday (19/10) a number of Palestinians were killed in an ongoing Israeli military operation in the Noor Shams refugee camp in the West Bank city of Tulkarem, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
Israel’s Shin Bet security agency confirmed Friday at cnn.com the arrest of the representative, Hasan Yusef “on suspicion of acting on behalf of Hamas.” Hassan Yousef, a leading Palestinian political figure who served as Hamas’ official representative in the West Bank; was arrested at his home, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, an NGO representing Palestinian prisoners.

Yousef has been arrested by Israeli forces several times and he has spent a total of 24 years in Israeli prisons on various charges of incitement, entering Jerusalem without permission and being a member of it Hamas.
He has made regular appearances in the international media, and this week told the Canadian newspaper “The Globe and Mail” that he believes that Hamas would be ready to release the approximately 200 hostages it is holdingif Israel agreed to one 24-hour ceasefire to allow aid to go to Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces said it was an operation by Israeli security forces. “Following large-scale counter-terrorist activity overnight in Judea and Samaria (West Bank), over 80 wanted suspects arrested, including 63 Hamas terror operatives“, he said.
In total 850 Palestinians have been arrested in the West Bank after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club. They are said to include among them legislators, prominent figures, journalists and ex-prisoners who have served extended sentences in Israeli prisons.
