Agreement to purchase 5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine Novavax signed by Israel. The vaccines are expected to arrive in the country in the coming months, pending approval by regulators.
The financial details of the deal, which includes the option for an additional 5 million installments, were not disclosed.
The Novavax protein-based vaccine will be administered in two doses and it was found that is effective against a number of variant strains of the new coronavirus, according to the ministry. This will be an alternative for those who do not want a vaccine that uses messenger RNA (mRNA) technology.
Most Israelis have been vaccinated with the Pfizer / BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or other vaccines that use mRNA to elicit an immune response, according to Reuters and the Athens News Agency.
The Israeli ministry added that Novavax vaccine has been approved by European regulators and is reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
