The Israeli military has ruled out that an Israeli air or artillery strike hit a UN facility housing thousands of displaced people in Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
“After an examination of our operational systems, the IDF has currently ruled out that this incident is the result of an IDF air or artillery attack,” the note points out.
Israel said a “thorough review of operations by forces in the vicinity is underway,” adding that it is “examining the possibility that the attack was the result of Hamas fire.”
Earlier, the UN humanitarian aid agency for the Palestinian territory said that a building housing displaced people was hit this Wednesday (24) in Khan Younis, killing at least nine people and injuring 75 others.
“Burning buildings and mass casualties. Safe access to and from the center was denied for two days. People are trapped,” wrote Thomas White, director of affairs at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), on X, formerly Twitter.
