Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, said that the military operation against Hamas will continue “with force” after the truce that should begin in the early hours of this Friday (24), and that the fighting should continue for at least more two months.
“This will be a brief break. When it ends, the fighting will continue with force and will create pressure that will allow the return of more hostages”, said Gallant during a visit to Israeli troops this Thursday (23).
“A fight of at least another two months is expected,” he added.
Truce and release of hostages
The truce between Israel and Hamas will begin in the early hours of this Friday (24), as announced by Qatar. Fighting will stop at 7am local time (2am Brasília time).
The measure is part of the agreement for the release of 50 hostages held by the armed group. The first batch, with 13 women and children, should be released at 4pm local time (11am Brasília time).
Hamas holds 236 hostages in Gaza, including foreign citizens from 26 countries, according to data from the Israeli military.
As announced by the Israeli government, the agreement also provides for an additional day of pause in fighting for every 10 people released.
