Israel: Extends 4th dose to older people staying in care

LAST UPDATE: 11:11

Israel is extending the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to elderly people living in care units, Health Minister Nijan Horovic said on Friday, citing their high exposure and susceptibility to infections, according to Reuters.

Israel is set to give a second boost of the coronavirus vaccine to people with weakened immune systems, the top health official said on Thursday, with vaccinations in the group starting today.

An Israeli hospital piloted a fourth dose of the vaccine to a team of health workers on Monday in the first major study to see if a second round of boosters could help treat the Omicron mutation. The results are expected within two weeks.
