Israel has developed a plan for a ground operation in Gaza

A plan for a ground operation in Gaza, from where the country has been bombarded with hundreds of missiles for the last three days, will be presented to the chief of the Israeli General Staff for consideration today, May 13. This was announced yesterday evening by the representative of the Israel Defense Forces, General Hidayet Zilberman, writes The Jerusalem Post.

According to the speaker, “all options remain in force.”

Before a possible ground operation, additional troops were deployed to the border, including paratroopers, infantry from the Golan Brigade and units of the 7th Armored Brigade.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz stressed that the army will continue to strike at Gaza until “until it brings complete and lasting peace.”

“Only when we achieve this goal, we will be able to talk about peace. We do not accept the moralizing of any organization or institution about our right and duty to protect the citizens of Israel,” he stressed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the government last night that he had rejected a Hamas ceasefire proposal. Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Aviv Kohavi called General Mark Milli, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, to inform him of the operation.

Israel’s security cabinet on Wednesday night approved Kochavi’s recommendation to escalate retaliatory air strikes on the sector. The military warns the local population about the points where the strike will be struck and give time to evacuate.

The escalation began in early May 2021 after the clashes between the Palestinians and the Israeli military in Jerusalem near the Al-Aqsa mosque. Formally, the clashes began due to the fact that a court in Israel ruled: in the Sheikh Jarrah quarter, some of the houses will be confiscated from Arab families who have been living there for decades and give them to Jewish settlers. The position of the court is that until 1948 it belonged to these Israeli families. The Palestinians began to resent. From May 10 to May 13, radicals from Gaza launched about 1,600 rockets at Israel. The Air Force responded with over 650 strikes on the sector. In Gaza, 69 people are said to have died and up to 400 were injured. Israel speaks of six casualties among its citizens.

“In the evening, we began to destroy government facilities in the Gaza Strip, such as central banks and internal security buildings. Cracks have appeared in Hamas: pressure is being exerted on it even among the people of Gaza, who are losing patience and seeing these ruins,” Zilberman said.
