The Israeli army said it intercepted an Yemen fired missile on Friday (21), one day after overthrowing two projectiles launched by Houthi combatants.
The Yemen Houthis supported by Iran took responsibility for the attack. Military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group fired a ballistic missile towards Ben Gurion airport, near Tel Aviv, a televised statement in the early hours of Saturday (22), local time.
Saree stated that the attack on Israel was the third of the group in 48 hours. He issued a warning to the airlines that Israeli airport was “no longer safe for air travel and would continue so until Israeli aggression against Gaza ended and the blockade was raised.”
However, the airport website seemed to be operating normally and showed a list of programmed flights.
The group’s military spokesman also said, with no evidence that the Houthis launched attacks against USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea.
The group recently promised to intensify the attacks, including Israeli directed, in response to US attacks earlier this month, representing the largest American military operation in the Middle East since President Donald Trump took office in January. US attacks killed at least 50 people.
The new Houthis attacks come under a promise to expand the range of targets in Israel in retaliation to the new Israeli attacks in Gaza that killed hundreds after weeks of relative calm.
The Houthis have carried out more than 100 ships attacks since the Israeli and Hamas War began in late 2023, saying they were acting in solidarity with the Gaza Palestinians.
The attacks interrupted global trade and led US military to launch a campaign to intercept missiles.
The Houthis are part of what was nicknamed the “axis of resistance”-an anti-Israel and anto-educational alliance of regional militias, including Hamas, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iraq-armed groups, all supported by Iran.
