Israel launches strikes on Hezbollah weapons bases in Lebanon, army says

The Israeli military said it targeted Hezbollah “weapons storage facilities” in several airstrikes in Lebanon on Saturday (14).

One of the attacks — on the outskirts of the town of Al-Kawakh in Baalbek-Hermel province — wounded four people, three of them children, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The ministry said all the injured required hospital treatment.

Another attack targeted “empty shops” in the town of Sareen in Baalbek, Lebanon’s state news agency NNA reported.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed carrying out strikes in the Beqaa and Baalbek areas, saying they targeted Hezbollah weapons storage facilities.

They said they also attacked Hezbollah weapons storage facilities in seven other areas of southern Lebanon.

The strikes follow what the IDF described as a barrage of 55 projectiles fired from Lebanese territory into Israeli territory early Saturday. Israeli forces said the projectiles targeted the Upper Galilee and Galilee areas.

Hezbollah claimed to have shelled the headquarters of an Israeli military brigade in Yiftach Eliklit, northwest of Lake Tiberias, “with dozens of Katyusha rockets.”

The Iran-backed group also claimed to have carried out several attacks in northern Israel throughout Saturday with rockets and drones targeting Israeli military sites. It described those strikes as being “in support of our steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and their brave and honorable resistance.”

There have been almost daily gun battles on the Israel-Lebanon border since war broke out between Israel and Hamas in Gaza following the October 7 attack.
