Israel: Palestinians killed after stabbing a police officer

The Israeli law enforcement killed one today Palestine who stabbed a police officer in the center of Hebron, a large city in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, a police spokesman said.

A Palestinian “appeared at a border police checkpoint to stab a police officer” who was “slightly injured,” the police unit said in a brief statement to the press. When questioned by Agence France-Presse, a spokesman for the border police, Tamir Pero, clarified that the perpetrator had been shot and killed.

The incident took place near the Cave of the Patriarchs, also called the Ibrahimi Mosque, which is a sacred place for both Judaism and Islam.

Nearly 1,000 Jewish settlers live in Hebron’s “gunpowder depot” under heavy military protection among 200,000 Palestinians.

Earlier in the day, a Palestinian man was “suspiciously” targeted by Israeli troops near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, and was shot dead and wounded.

The incident comes as Israeli forces launched an operation in the northern part of the occupied West Bank in the wake of an attack Thursday night in Tel Aviv that killed three people, including a Palestinian from the Jenin refugee camp.
