Israel Plots Global Campaign to Assassinate Hamas Leaders, WSJ Reveals

The Israel plans to hunt down Hamas leaders around the world once it finishes fighting the group in Gaza, the Wall Street Journal. Intelligence agencies have been ordered by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to draw up plans to assassinate the group’s top leaders outside Gaza, who live in Turkey, Qatar and elsewhere, the newspaper said, citing Israeli officials.

“In the 1970s, Israel began a multi-year campaign to kill Palestinian terrorists involved in the massacre at the Munich Olympics,” notes the Times of Israelciting the American newspaper.

According to the report, some called on Israel to assassinate the Hamas leader immediately Khaled Meshaal and others after the October 7 attack. However, doing so on Qatari or Turkish soil could strain or torpedo diplomatic efforts to free the hostages, and the idea was pushed back.

Netanyahu hinted at Israel’s plans for overseas assassinations in a speech in late November, angering some who preferred to keep the future campaign secret, according to the WSJ.

The paper also says Israel is considering expelling Hamas fighters, who are lower in the organization, from Gaza to shorten the war.
