The new extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council is without result
Meanwhile New emergency meeting focusing on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict held today (12/05) by the UN Security Council. However, it once again failed to agree on a statement, due to the persistent opposition of the USA to the adoption of any text, according to diplomats.
“The Security Council requested that in addition to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ongoing inspections in Iran, that it monitor Israel’s compliance with” the steps required by the IAEA Board “. “The United States does not seem to think that a statement helps de-escalate,” said another diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity.
According to various sources cited by the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, 14 of the 15 members of the Security Council were in favor of adopting a joint statement which would aim to reduce the intensity. No comment has been made so far by the US mission to the UN.
During the meeting, the UN envoy for the Middle East, Thor Venezland, stressed that “the situation has worsened since Monday,” according to a diplomatic source. “This has been a wide escalation for years,” he added.

As early as Monday, in a first emergency meeting, the United States had rejected a joint text proposed by Tunisia, Norway and China, urging both sides to refrain from any provocation. The US had then explained that it was not sure that a text could help de-escalate.
