Israel says 13 UN employees took part in Hamas attacks

Israel alleges that 13 employees of the main United Nations humanitarian aid agency in Gaza were involved in the Hamas attack on October 7 last year against Israel.

The Israeli government says the group participated in everything from being involved in the kidnapping of hostages to creating an operations room, according to a summary of the intelligence report that the CNN gained access through Israeli officials.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) employs more than 13,000 people in Gaza and provides humanitarian support to the enclave.

Of the 13 UNRWA employees believed to be associated with the attack, the Israeli document alleges that 10 were Hamas agents, two were Palestinian Islamic Jihad agents and one was not identified.

Israel believes that six UNRWA employees infiltrated Israel as part of the attack, four were involved in kidnapping Israelis, and three additional UNRWA employees were “invited via SMS to arrive at a meeting area the night before the attack and were instructed to equip themselves with weapons”, but their presence on October 7th has not been confirmed. It also alleges that at least one UNRWA employee provided logistical support for the attack.

This summary is part of what was provided to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew and Special Ambassador for Middle East Humanitarian Affairs David Satterfield in a Friday meeting with Israel's military intelligence chief, according to with the Israeli officer. The New York Times first reported the details of the allegations.

When asked about the case, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, said the UN had not received the dossier and that UNRWA operates in Gaza under the mandate of the UN General Assembly, a voting body of the United States. members.
