Israel says it has killed 5 commanders of Hamas air operations forces since October 7

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it has killed five commanders of Hamas air operations forces since October 7, according to a statement released this Monday (23).

“The Hamas air force operates a variety of weapons against the State of Israel. The group played a significant role in the attack against Israel at the beginning of the war and, in recent days, the Israeli Air Force eliminated several commanders from the group”, highlights the IDF note.

The officers the Israeli military claimed to have killed included three in Gaza City, one in the northern Gaza Strip, and an officer from Hamas’s Zabra Tel Elhua Battalion.

An armed group’s surface-to-air missile launch cell was also eliminated, according to the IDF.

Hamas has not commented on the allegations about the commanders’ deaths so far.

In a separate statement, the IDF said its fighter jets struck “the head of the anti-tank missile operations force of the Hamas Northern Brigade, Ibrahim Alkhaser, in the north of the Gaza Strip,” whom it accuses of firing the anti-tank missile that killed Israeli Sergeant Omer Tabib and injured other soldiers in 2021.

“The IDF continues to attack throughout the Gaza Strip also during the day, and we are concentrating on the neighborhoods around Gaza City and continue to attack with force,” highlighted IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari.

“Today we also attacked open areas where terrorists gathered. Dozens of them died, as well as high-ranking field commanders,” he added.

“We frustrated [duas] aircraft that attempted to cross the Gaza Strip. We have been reducing the air pool for a long time. [Cinco] senior commanders of Hamas’ air operations forces have been eliminated so far,” concluded Hagari.
