The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) sent text messages to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip this Tuesday (19) offering money in exchange for any information about Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
A journalist from CNN in Gaza he received the message in Arabic on his phone stating: “Do you want to end the war? If you have reliable information about the abductees or their abductors, do not hesitate to contact us and you could receive a valuable cash reward.”
The message had two phone numbers attached, as well as a link to a website, 'machtoffin.com', which links to a website with photos, names and ages of the Israeli hostages.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip faces a humanitarian crisis following Israeli bombings in the Palestinian territory, where 70% of the northern population suffers from catastrophic levels of hunger, a UN-backed report said.
After Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel last year, the group took Israeli hostages back to Gaza, and many of them still remain there.
According to a survey of CNN as of last week, a total of 33 of the 130 hostages are believed to be dead.
A CNN is trying to contact the IDF for comment.
