The supervisory authority of his government Israel announced today that it will launch an investigation into the deaths of 45 people in a trampling that took place at a Jewish religious festival last week.
State Auditor Matanyahu Engleman said his government-controlled office would investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy on Mount Meron in Galilee.
“I would like to announce today that I intend to launch a special investigation, which will examine the circumstances that led to the tragedy,” he said in a televised statement.
Several years ago, the auditor’s office described the band on Mount Meron in northern Israel as dangerous, where the festival took place on the night of Thursday to Friday last week.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised an investigation into the deaths.
