Israel-Syria ‘war’ after tanker attack in Oman – State Department ‘monitors developments’

The attack on an Israeli ship came in response to an attack by occupying forces at Dabaa airport, the Arabic-language Iranian channel Alam TV reported, citing “sources on the axis of resistance”.

The channel did not provide any other details.

Dabaa Military Airport is located in central Syria.

Israel tonight blamed Iran for its responsibility for the attack off Oman on a tanker of Israeli interests, stressing that a “tough response” is needed.

In a statement, Israeli Foreign Minister Jair Lapid said he had told the British Foreign Secretary that a tough response was needed to the attack, which killed two members of the tanker crew, a British and a Romanian.

“Iran is not just an Israeli problem, but it is an exporter of terrorism, destruction and instability that hurts us all. “People should not remain silent in the face of Iranian terrorism, which also affects free navigation.”

State Department “monitors developments”

The State Department has expressed grave concern over reports of an attack on an Israeli tanker off the coast of Oman, and is closely monitoring the situation.

U.S. and European sources have previously told Reuters that Iran is the prime suspect in the case, but that it is too early to say for sure.

A U.S. defense official said Mercer Street, a Liberian-flagged oil tanker owned by Japan and operated by the Israeli company Zodiac Maritime, appeared to have been attacked by an unmanned aircraft.

A spokesman for the Israeli embassy in Washington confirmed the attack, but gave no further details.
