Israeli forces killed three Palestinians, members of the Islamic Jihad group, during an operation in the north of the occupied West Bank, Israeli police said, adding that four soldiers had been wounded.
The three Palestinians opened fire when soldiers tried to capture them near Jenin. They were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire, police said. The Palestinian Islamist movement has confirmed their deaths.
The members of a special Israeli anti-terrorist unit operating in the area “received information about a terrorist cell that was on its way to an attack and stopped the vehicle in which they were riding between Jenin and Tulkarem”, the police clarified in a statement.
“We mourn the death of our three heroic fighters,” the Islamic Jihad militant group said, adding that two were from Jenin and one from Tulkarem.
